Anchorage has come a long way since its founding in 1914. Originally set up as a tent city by the Alaska Rail-road, it is now blossomed into an important financial and commercial hub. Forty percent of the state's population lives in Anchorage.

Most tourists know Anchorage as a "stop-over" city on their way to explore the snow capped mountain ranges and vast wilderness that makes up so much of Alaska. Skiers, fishermen and outdoor adventures are in abundant supply in this city. Cruisers' know Anchorage by experiencing the many day trips offered through their cruise line.

Anchorage does have an abundance of attractions, including museums, shops, nightlife venues and a great zoo. Visit during the summer to experience the City of Flower, home to more than 400 flower beds in full bloom or during any other season to be dazzled by the sparkling Northern Lights.
