Meat Packing District

Officially known as Gansevoort Market or the Meatpacking District was populated almost exclusively by wholesale meat companies. It is a tiny stone-covered marketplace that spans four blocks but it received landmark designation in September 2003. It has had a dubious past going through a general decline on the waterfront due to the advent of the supermarket which changes the distribution pattern for meat and bottomed out as a center of drug dealing and prostitution.

But beginning in the 1990's the area has undergone remarkable change and now features high end boutiques that cater to young professionals, restaurants and nightclubs. More than 60 establishments that have opened there, including some of the latest, most trendy places to shop, dine, and drink. At one time New York Magazine referred to it as "New York's most fashionable neighborhood".

Highline Park recently opened. Once an old abandoned freight railroad track used for transporting meat, plants and other staples, this pedestrian paradise provides a peaceful, elevated getaway above the fray.

  • Aquariums

Oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface, and we’ve only explored about 5% of it. That leaves so much of the Earth that we know nothing about. Not everyone can dive right into the water to look at the ocean life, so why not do the next best thing? Aquariums give us a window into a whole other world. Most locations around the world have aquariums; some larger than others.

  • Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling began to take off in the 1950's as lightweight design emerged. At first, snowmobiling was a topic of dispute, because snowmobilers like to take advantage of the flexibility of their machines to travel off-road, thereby disrupting otherwise pristine environments. Others objected to snowmobilers because their machines were noisy and polluted the environment.
