Tokyo enjoys a long history of prosperity as Japan’s capital and has developed into one of the greatest metropolises in the world. Tokyo has been chosen to host the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. Tokyo will host the first ever 'downtown’ games. Athletes and spectators will have short travel times thanks to Tokyo’s plan to stage the ‘world's most compact Olympics'.
