The iconic picture of Venice is two people together in a gondola or “taxi”. Other than being a romantic symbol, gondolas serve as a primary mode of transportation for its citizens. If a city offers a fantastic, exciting and passionate history, it is definitely that of Venice! It has been the object of admiration of all Europe for centuries. It has been described as being a living museum, exuding art from all its pores, inviting you to dream, consider and admire.

When visiting Venice one gets immersed in its love of the Arts. The art of Venice permeates daily life, from the doorbells, to the wardrobe, to speech and thought. Everything is so picturesque and at the same time it is so easy to get lost in this labyrinth of more than 100 islands united by more than 400 bridges, the whole on barely 7 by 4 kilometers!

And this presents a definite problem: where to begin, what to see, when, how? The entire city is constructed on water, on millions of trunks of trees planted vertically in the soil of the lagoon for over one thousand years in some cases. Because of this natural protection, Venice has never needed to build ugly, high, and massive barricades as the majority of European cities during the same era. This water from the sea, which surrounds the city, also offered centuries of protection to the city of Venice from the potential invaders. Since to sail in the lagoon was particularly risky for those who did not know the obligatory passages, they would become stuck in the sand.

Not to be missed, there is a whole culinary tradition with and around the products of the sea.
