Billed as the closest beaches to Orlando's theme parks and the "birthplace of space," Florida's Space Coast stretches 72 miles, from the northernmost town of Titusville to the southern coastal community of Palm Bay. In the center of it all is Melbourne Beach.

This city rests on both the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Lagoon, providing lots of water sports and fun in the sun for beach goers. Located just down the road from Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, visitors to Melbourne can also enjoy the city's multitude of annual festivals, as well as its historical downtown area.

There is an abundance of kid-friendly recreational opportunities. From para sail flights, surfing and stand-up paddle boarding lessons to kayak eco-tours and guided sea turtle walks, the options are exciting as well as beginner-friendly.

Treetop Trek, at the Brevard Zoo is a three-course treetop challenge with ropes, bridges, ladders and zip lines for the kids to enjoy. A trip down Canoe Creek, a visit to the Kennedy Space Center, Lighthouse Point Park, the Marine Science Center and the Space Coast Stadium, home to the Washington Nationals and Brevard County Manatees are sure to please as well.

For water sports enthusiasts you have the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and Sebastian Inlet, a water-lover's paradise, with a swimming cove with wading areas, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
