Salt lake City and Utah is an excellent destination for the outdoor adventurer. No area in the USA offers such breathtaking views of the National Parks of Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion. If that isn't enough, the Wasatch Mountains add their own incredible views as viewed from scenic highways and secluded destinations. Utah is excellent for mountain biking, climbing, hiking, rafting, skiing and a host of other outdoor adventures and Salt Lake City is the gateway to it all.

The great Salt Lake is an attraction to itself. As the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River and the largest salt water lake in the western hemisphere, the lake has a rich history, interesting features and plays an important role in the ecosystem and provides abundant recreational opportunities and perpetuates the myth of what has become known as the North Shore Monster - the Great Salt Lake's version of the Loch Ness Monster.

The lake and its islands offer residents and visitors opportunities to sail, kayak, float, bird watch, hike, bike and more. At the Great Salt Lake Marina you can launch a kayak or boat, go on a sunset cruise, or take in the spectacular view. Nearby is the Saltair - a resort that has been rebuilt three times in its history, and is currently used as a concert venue. The best place to swim or float in the lake is at Antelope Island State Park. Floating in the lake is a unique experience because the high salt content makes it easier to float. Antelope Island also has hiking and biking trails, spectacular views, and the historic Fielding Garr Ranch.

Temple Square is the most visited attraction in Salt Lake City but you can also day trip to one of 15 national museums and monuments in the state. The Olympic venues and Wendover's casino are still popular draws. If you're looking for something genuinely unique to Salt Lake then genealogy is what you want in the "Genealogy Capitol of the World."

For the kids, you can take a break from sightseeing and play hard at Salt lake's theme and water parks or area ski resorts include Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude. From infants to teens, the resorts have activities for all ages and skill levels. With a variety of day care options and ski school programs, there is a place for everyone to meet others and create lasting memories in a safe, fun and engaging environment.

Speaking of the great outdoors, Utah is arguably the gateway city to the western USA's greatest snow skiing!
