Only nine miles from Maui, yet a world away, Lanai can feel like two places. The first is found in luxurious resorts where visitors can indulge in world-class amenities and championship golf. The other is found bouncing along the island’s rugged back-roads in a 4-wheel drive exploring off the beaten path treasures. In fact, only 30 miles of Lanai’s roads are paved.
Lanai is separated into three regions: South Lanai, which offers the only accessible beach, Central Lanai, where you get a more rustic feel than the other Hawaiian Islands and North Lanai, which features 400 miles of dirt road to explore in a 4-wheeler.
Hulopoe Bay is home to one of America’s best beaches, Puu Pehe or Sweetheart Rock is an iconic landmark, Kaiolohia or Shipwreck Beach, features a ghostly ship still wrecked off shore, and Keahiakawelo, or Garden of the Gods, is a 4-wheelers paradise.
