Billed as the closest beaches to Orlando's theme parks and the "birthplace of space," Florida's Space Coast stretches 72 miles, from the northernmost town of Titusville to the southern coastal community of Palm Bay. In the center of it all is Melbourne Beach.

This city rests on both the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Lagoon, providing lots of water sports and fun in the sun for beach goers. Located just down the road from Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, visitors to Melbourne can also enjoy the city's multitude of annual festivals, as well as its historical downtown area.

There is an abundance of kid-friendly recreational opportunities. From para sail flights, surfing and stand-up paddle boarding lessons to kayak eco-tours and guided sea turtle walks, the options are exciting as well as beginner-friendly.

Treetop Trek, at the Brevard Zoo is a three-course treetop challenge with ropes, bridges, ladders and zip lines for the kids to enjoy. A trip down Canoe Creek, a visit to the Kennedy Space Center, Lighthouse Point Park, the Marine Science Center and the Space Coast Stadium, home to the Washington Nationals and Brevard County Manatees are sure to please as well.

For water sports enthusiasts you have the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and Sebastian Inlet, a water-lover's paradise, with a swimming cove with wading areas, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

New Things To Do

  • Aquariums

Oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface, and we’ve only explored about 5% of it. That leaves so much of the Earth that we know nothing about. Not everyone can dive right into the water to look at the ocean life, so why not do the next best thing? Aquariums give us a window into a whole other world. Most locations around the world have aquariums; some larger than others.

  • Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling began to take off in the 1950's as lightweight design emerged. At first, snowmobiling was a topic of dispute, because snowmobilers like to take advantage of the flexibility of their machines to travel off-road, thereby disrupting otherwise pristine environments. Others objected to snowmobilers because their machines were noisy and polluted the environment.
